Coverage to accompany a company car

Imagine yourself on the road to visit a client when the unthinkable happens. You find yourself in an accident with your company car and you might be at fault. The other driver sustains serious injuries. Are you covered for a lawsuit?

Your personal auto policy covers you when you occasionally drive another car you don't own. But it likely excludes coverage when your employer supplies a car that's available for your regular use. While your employer provides some coverage, you may be responsible for judgments that exceed that coverage.

Ask your insurance representative to add the Extended Non-Owned Coverage for Named Individual endorsement to your personal auto policy. For just a few dollars, the limits of liability and medical payment protection of your personal auto policy will also protect you above the limits provided by your employer's insurance policy.

Finally, you may need extended coverage if you rent vehicles for longer vacations (generally more than 30 days); you have a son or daughter away at school without a car who regularly uses a friend's car; or you regularly drive any other auto that you don't own.
